PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Working-class parent and Peoria County native Garth Gullette has announced his candidacy for Illinois’ 16th Congressional District.

The Republican plans to run for the spot that has been held by Republican Congressman Darin Lahood since 2015.

Gullette also plans to run a grassroots campaign, garnishing support from neighbors, and shying away from party insiders. As a family man, he said his campaign will focus on issues important to him, like improving public safety, affordable housing, and bank policy reform.

The next primary election is March 17, 2026. The general election will be on Nov. 3, 2026.
