TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The ECCA Volunteer Fire Department held a public meeting to educate the community about potential explosive threats from World War II-era ordnances left behind near Camp Barkeley.

Big Country residents are accustomed to watching where they step when they go outside, but a different risk for some residents may have you looking a little closer. Camp Barkley was a World War II training camp just southwest of Abilene, and after 80 years, it would be easy to think not much of Camp Barkley remains.

That's mostly true, but not completely, as there are reports of unexploded ordnance, which refers to things like bombs, mortar rounds and artillery shells, being found within several miles of the old camp.
