KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about an alarming trend in common jury duty phone scams, where callers claim to be from a law enforcement agency and demand money to clear an arrest warrant.
Earlier this week, a woman came close to losing thousands and potentially avoided a dangerous situation.
“They said that she had missed jury duty, and she had a warrant out for her arrest. That is very common. Those scams happen all the time, but what was a little different about this one was that he asked to meet her here (The Sheriff’s Office) to make the payment,” said Sarah Boyd, public relations manager for the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Bianca Bartshe, the scam victim, now has a message for others.
“I know a lot of warnings tell you to hang up and
