MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — The number of Legionnaires' disease cases in Marshalltown has climbed to 68, with seven new cases reported since Tuesday.

Legionnaires' disease is contracted by inhaling contaminated aerosolized water droplets. However, health officials have not yet identified the source of the contamination.

The investigation into the outbreak has been an extensive effort, operating seven days a week. Local health officials are working with multiple agencies to determine the cause.

For the family of 82-year-old Bernard Grady, who passed away on August 29, these efforts have come too late. Grady's brother acknowledged the county health department's efforts but called for a stronger push to identify the source of the illness.
