OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) — Kroger employees broke ground on Owensboro's new Kroger Marketplace, which promises to be larger than typical Kroger stores with expanded features and services.

The store will offer more than just food, including household goods, a fuel center, a drive-thru pharmacy, a wine and spirits shop, and even a sushi bar.

"I think it’s just a growth phase for Kroger right now and I think that’s the same for multiple companies," said Jessica Sharp.

Jessica Sharp, the head of communication and public affairs for the Louisville division, said population growth was a key factor in this development.

Just west of the incoming Kroger, the Gateway Commons Shopping Center is planned for Fairview Drive, offering Owensboro residents additional shopping options.
