UNION COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) — Cooperation is needed as authorities say drivers continue to ignore construction zone stop signs implemented by the State Highway Department.

The Union County Sheriff says this is a very serious safety concern for those working in the area.

Drivers are asked to pay attention, obey the signs, and slow down.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says they will be working with the State Highway Department by issuance of criminal complaints on any future violators.

We're told deputies may be stationed randomly at work zones in marked or unmarked vehicles.

Authorities say this action also includes the work sites of the Union County Road Department and utility work areas.

A reminder fines in work zones are doubled.
