DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Some new signage is coming to the Bad River Band’s tribal land in northwest Wisconsin.

On Wednesday in Ashland, WisDOT and the Bad River Band unveiled dual-language highway signs.

The sign welcomes travelers to the tribal community in English and the native language.

Leaders of the Bad River Band say inclusion on these signs makes a big impact

“It’s a warm feeling knowing that people are going to see that and know where they’re at and know what people are here,” said Robert Blanchard, a Tribal Chairman of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

WisDOT has been installing these dual-language signs since 2021.

Applications are open, and WisDOT says to contact your tribal liaison for that application.

MnDOT has also installed dual-language sign
