A man was killed and his 6-year-old son suffered life-threatening injuries Wednesday afternoon when they were struck by a vehicle while walking in east Vancouver.

Vancouver police responded to the crash about 1:20 p.m. in the 6400 block of Northeast 137th Avenue, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, police said first responders found the father lying in the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy was found in a ditch about 10 feet away from the crash site and taken to Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland, the news release states.

Authorities did not identify the father and son.

The 73-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, police said. Authorities did not immediately identify the driver.
