NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans mayor and her former bodyguard accused of corruption will face trial together next year.
Following a status conference in their federal cases, a new trial date was set for Oct. 19, 2026, for both Mayor LaToya Cantrell and former NOPD officer Jeffrey Vappie. Advertisement
Cantrell is facing charges of conspiracy, wire fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice, false statements, obstruction of justice and false declaration before a grand jury. She pleaded not guilty.
Vappie pleaded not guilty to charges of wire fraud and obstruction of justice.
Cantrell's original trial date was set for November, and Vappie's was set in January of 2026.
She and Vappie are accused of trying to cover up an alleged relationship.
