MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The former police chief of the Covington, Tennessee police department died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, according to the department.
Carver worked with the Covington Police Department for more than five decades. He began with the department in 1971 and started earning commendations in 1972, 1976, 1978, 1982, and 1983, and being named Officer of the Year in 1978.
He advanced through the ranks steadily, promoted to Sergeant in 1973, placed in charge of drug enforcement in 1988, and later rising to Investigator, Captain, and ultimately Chief of Police on April 12, 2005.
During his tenure with the department he pursued extensive training, from narcotics enforcement and officer survival courses to counterterrorism and tactical unit work.
