BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County Fair can provide a whole lot of fun for the fairgoers with music and special events, as well as mouth-watering food, but it's important to keep it that way by ensuring safety, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Bakersfield police have beefed up security for this year's fair, adding new metal detectors at the entrance and bike patrols. They have also brought back the police watchtower by the Budweiser Pavilion where officers have a birds eye view of the fairgrounds.

BPD has dedicated officers to provide security this week and all of next week, according to officials.
