COLUMBIANA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A sigh of relief could be felt at the Shelby Humane Society Wednesday after the community showed up in full force to support the organization and the staff members behind it.

“You have days when you wonder if people really care about what you’re doing here with the animals,” said Executive Director Saundra Ivey. “That was very reassuring.”

The community donated a little over $54,000, exceeding humane society’s $50,000 goal, so it can pay its staff.

This comes after an unexpected call for help.

“I have never posted on Facebook like that,” Ivey said. “Payroll went out today. It got approved today and we are so grateful.”
