WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders are returning to their historic home at the old RFK Stadium site — a move met with celebration by fans and concern by some neighbors in the surrounding community.
The D.C. Council gave final approval Wednesday to a stadium deal that paves the way for the Commanders to build a new home in the District for the first time in decades. For longtime fans, the news sparked instant emotion.
"I'm ecstatic — I think the last time I had tears of joy was at my wedding," said Tailgate Ted, a well-known Commanders superfan. “I’m also a Washingtonian. This is home for me. I drive past the RFK site every day going to work. This is something we haven’t been able to do anything with — out of our control. Now we can.”
