ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - South Fulton mayor khalid “Kobi” kamau is walking back his decision to pause an investigation into the city’s police department.

The council approved the investigation back in July , when they also placed South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows on temporary administrative leave.

South Fulton Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs said the move was unexpected.

“It was a curve ball that was thrown at us,” Gumbs. “But he came to his senses and decided to pull it off the agenda.”

The council was previously set to consider overriding the mayor’s opposition to the review.

“And at this point in time, of course, we certainly knew that he was instrumental veto, but to send it out to the community to incite them was really not the best move,” said Gumbs.
