FARGO — The city of Fargo and Fargo Park District are contributing to the health of the Red River through an initiative called “Reforesting the Red.”
Hundreds of volunteers, including Shanley High School students, planted about 3,500 trees on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in south Fargo, next to the Red River.
A forester with Fargo Parks said the group planted elm, oak, willow and cottonwood trees, along with a dozen different native shrubs.
He said the trees help reduce flooding erosion, provide shelter for wildlife and stabilize riverbanks.
