Knoxville Police Department's Mounted Patrol Unit is expanding from two horses to five. By mid-October, you can expect to see all the horses out and about, patrolling the Old City and on Market Square and Gay Street, according to KPD. You'll also find the police horses at special events across Knoxville.
The Mounted Patrol Unit was reestablished in December 2024. In March, horseback officers were in public for the first time since the last century.
