Yesterday marked day 7 of 90° temperatures in Springfield. This is the longest stretch of 90s in September since 1983. Today will be close, but we should just barely avoid the 90s in Springfield. Meanwhile, the low 90s are possible farther east.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms today are likely, especially later in the afternoon. The coverage of rain is looking better than the widely scattered rain we've seen the past 3 days, but there will still be some spots that stay dry. Rainfall amounts can be expected to vary greatly, from 0.25" to nearly 2" in local pockets. Like we've seen in the past few days, a few of the storms may be intense enough to produce a brief round of hail or strong winds.
