Is it a tourist trap, or is it the truth?

That's a question influencer Mattlan Ladner aims to answer in his Tuesday videos where he tries well-known New Orleans restaurants where tourists line up to eat.

Mattlan, based in New Orleans, is from my Mississippi Coast hometown and we've been friends long before I started working at the Times-Picayune and he started reviewing the NOLA food scene in viral videos.

Known online as Big Eatsy , Mattlan invited me to try Mother's Restaurant in the Central Business with him recently, and I eagerly agreed.

I have lived in New Orleans for two years and have yet to try many of the "household name" restaurants here.

Known for the baked ham and roast beef, I was excited to give Mother's a try because I love a Ferdi po-boy.
