LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Health officials are warning the public after central Kentucky hospitals reported a surge in nonfatal drug overdoses this week.

Since September 11, hospitals in the region have reported 67 suspected nonfatal overdose-related emergency visits, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

Officials say that number is unusually high for this time of year.

The alert covers Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Lincoln, Madison, Mercer, Nicholas, Powell, Scott and Woodford counties.
