IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa City City Council voted this week to rezone the site of Roosevelt Elementary so it can be transformed into affordable housing.
During it’s meeting on Tuesday, city council members voted unanimously to rezone the nearly 10-acre property on Greenwood Drive to Medium Density Multi-Family Residential Zone. Further readings to consider were waived.
Roosevelt Elementary closed in 2011 after 81 years. The building has remained vacant since it was sold to developers in 2021.
Indiana-based TWG wants to transform the site into a 187-unit affordable housing project that would also have 113 parking spaces.
