A priceless racing helmet and piece of Canadian motorsport history has been found.
Police announced Thursday that a suspect had been arrested in the theft of a racing helmet that had gone missing from the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.
The stolen helmet had been worn by the late IndyCar driver Greg Moore during his 1998 victory at the Rio 400 in Brazil. Moore, who was born in New Westminster and raised in Maple Ridge, was positioned to be Canada’s next great racing legend before his untimely death during a crash at the 1999 Marlboro 500. He was 24.
“Greg Moore was a B.C. icon who rose to the top of his sport and inspired us all,” said Sgt. Steve Addison in a statement.
“The theft of his racing helmet has impacted Greg’s family, the sports community, and everyone who cheered him to success
