Most of us feel it’s been really dry at our houses. The U.S. Drought Monitor believes the same, and the dryness has been reflected in today’s newest drought status report.

Here is the official drought status as of this morning. The drought status is issued once per week on Thursday, and uses data up to Tuesday. Once in a while we get an odd feeling if there is a lot of rain on a Wednesday or Thursday, as that rain would not be incorporated in the map issued on Thursday. In this week’s case there is no confusion. It has been dry.

We went from 31 percent abnormally dry last week to 56 percent this week. Moderate drought expanded from six percent to 31 percent now. Severe drought was less than one percent last week and is now around six percent of Michigan.
