JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — The calendar may turn to fall, but Cambria County is looking ahead to the holiday season.
Multiple police departments and the Cambria County Crimestoppers announced the start of the Cambria County Shop with a Cop initiative. For the past three years, children in the community or in bad circumstances have been paired with local police officers to shop around stores for Christmas gifts.
"These are kids out there in bad circumstances," Allyson Lonas, the director of the program, said. "They don't have the resources that other kids have and grew up in environments that you can't imagine. They grew up not trusting the police officers. So what our program is meant to do is to build those relationships with the officers."
