BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- One person is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Oildale Thursday morning, according to officials.

At 1:21 a.m., officials responded to State Road and Olive Drive for reports of a pedestrian being struck by a semi-truck. A big rig with flashing lights was seen on the side of the road while the driver talked to law enforcement.

California Highway Patrol investigating officers said a 68-year-old man was driving a 2018 Mack tractor-trailer southbound on State Road when a 28-year-old man purposefully stepped in front of the vehicle.

The semi-truck was going about 5-10 miles per hour, according to officials. The involved driver immediately stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

A crushed bicycle was also spotted in video of the scene.
