NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Nashville Police Department announced the arrest of a serial rape suspect on Thursday afternoon.

Police said 60-year-old Garrick Oden, of La Vergne, was arrested following a five-year investigation.

Police said Oden would reportedly stop to offer rides to women he saw walking and instead of taking them to their desired location, he would drive them to remote areas to rape them.

“Since the women did not know him personally, DNA evidence collected was crucial to linking the cases together forensically, then subsequently identifying the suspect through outstanding investigative work,” police said.

Oden was indicted on eight counts of rape. He remains jailed on a $600,000 bond.
