KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Thursday, TVA showcased its River Forecast Center, giving an inside look into how they monitor water levels to try and prevent flooding.

The TVA said one of the main improvements it has made since Helene was improvements to communication.

“Probably the most important lesson we learned was the significance of communication, just being able to communicate and being having some redundancy built into our emergency preparedness for being able to communicate with the sites themselves,” said Darrell Guinn, senior manager of the river forecast center at TVA. “Cell phone communication was very difficult in some of those areas. So we had to rely on emergency responders to help us with that.”
