KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One of Kansas City's most popular radio stations and its leader are being honored by the National Black Radio Hall of Fame (NBRHOF) in St. Louis.
The National Black Radio Hall of Fame is recognizing Michael Carter, the president and CEO of Carter Broadcast Group Inc.
His grandfather, Andrew "Skip" Carter, founded the very first African American-owned radio station in the United States, KPRS, back in 1950.
Michael continues to build on his grandfather's legacy with KPRS-FM, known locally as Hot 103 Jamz!, and its sister station KPRT-AM, an urban gospel station – two of the longest-standing African American-owned and operated radio stations in the country.
According to the hall of fame, Michael's work has impacted Kansas City in many ways.
