Hardin County District Attorney Rebecca Walton will begin preparing in the months ahead to prosecute Zachary Allen Wilson, 23, for the 2022 shooting death of James W. Hollie in Deweyville.
Walton stood before District Judge Craig Mixson on Thursday, along with defense attorney Cory Crenshaw, in a pretrial hearing. The attorneys met and compared schedules and will appear before Mixson again in mid October for motion hearings and docket availability.
Walton said she will use the coming months to study evidence brought out of storage by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office in preparation for the trial.
The shooting occurred before the election of current Sheriff Colton Havard.
Newton County District Attorney Courtney Tracy Ponthier recused herself from prosecuting the case.
