Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy made it just three plays into the team's opener against the Los Angeles Chargers before suffering a shoulder injury.
Worthy ran into teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing route and left the game.
That knocked him out of the opener against Los Angeles for good and kept him out of the team's Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now, in a 0-2 hole to start the season, the Chiefs could use reinforcements at the wide receiver position. Rashee Rice remains suspended until Week 7 which leaves the team with veterans to pick up the slack.
Tyquan Thornton found the most room against Philadelphia in Week 2 but still only caught four of six targets for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas City heads on the road again in Week 3 for a matchup with the New York Giants on "Sunday Night Football." Here's the latest on Worthy's status for the game.
When will Xavier Worthy return?
Worthy was limited in practice today and Wednesday, the same designation he had before last week's game against Philadelphia.
He ended up listed as "doubtful" on the injury report for that game and ultimately did not play.
Given that track record, he could be "doubtful" once again for Week 3's game against New York. That may make him a game-time decision for coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs.
Chiefs WR depth chart
Without Rice and Worthy, the Chiefs have had to rely on veterans like Thornton to take up more of the targets. The team's fourth-round pick, wide receiver Jalen Royals, is also recovering from an injury.
Here's how things look with Worthy and Rice out:
- Hollywood Brown
- JuJu Smith-Schuster
- Tyquan Thornton
- Jalen Royals (injured)
- Jason Brownlee
- Nikko Remigio
