COLUMBIA, S.C. — In the wake of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk’s murder, South Carolina officials are weighing how far public employees should be allowed to go when posting online.

The South Carolina Department of Education issued a memo calling social media posts celebrating Kirk’s death “disturbing," and State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver urged districts to investigate any claims of social media posts about Kirk.

“Anyone who celebrates or condones murder or political violence should be disqualified from teaching or working with children," said Weaver.

Several colleges , including Clemson University, have already dismissed employees for social media comments related to Kirk’s death.
