TRAVERSE CITY — September is national recovery month and Addiction Treatment Services in Traverse City sees an average of 1,500 patients a year.
One advocate went through addiction treatment himself -- but has reclaimed his life and now works to be an inspiration to others.
“If someone like me can recover, somebody, anyone can,” said Addiction Treatment Services program manager David Gloudemans.
For Gloudemans -- recovery is personal.
“I’m a 7 time felon, I have 7 DUI’s, I’ve destroyed my life, I’ve destroyed relationships. I’ve hurt people physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally. I’ve lived a bad life, but I’ve found that I’m not a bad person. And I’ve found that gift through the help of other people. I’ve been in service to others, which is the core of recovery.”
