A new update regarding the current drought conditions across Arkansas has just been released. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor now shows more widespread moderate drought conditions along with severe drought conditions in far northeastern parts of the state. This area has missed out on multiple rounds of rainfall and continue to see the largest impacts.
An update to rainfall departures over the past 90 days paint the picture on how deep deficits have become. Large sections of central and northeast Arkansas are running 6 to 9 inches below normal since early summer, with isolated spots showing shortfalls near 10 inches. In contrast, some western counties are closer to average, underscoring how uneven rainfall has been this season.
Looking ahead, rain is in the forecast throughout next week,
