NORFOLK, Va. — Overall, the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season hasn’t been very active, with just one hurricane, Erin. Tropical Storm Gabrielle, currently in the Atlantic, is forecast to curve back out to sea, keeping it away from the United States. That path is similar to the paths of many of this year's named storms.

Why have a majority of this year’s tropical systems stayed away from the United States? While each storm’s eventual path is influenced by different factors, a primary influence this year has been something called the “Azores High.”
