TONASKET, Wash. — The Okanogan County Sheriff's Office says an explosive device was found on a walking path near Tonasket High School on Thursday afternoon.
The sheriff's office confirmed that an IED (improvised explosive device) was found by a Tonasket woman walking on a path near the high school campus.
The area was secured, and the sheriff's office coordinated safety measures with the school to ensure the safety of the students and the public.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad confirmed the device contained black powder and a technician conducted a controlled detonation of the device, which may have been heard in the immediate area.
The Tonasket School District says all district schools will be closed on Friday, Sept. 19.
