Premier David Eby says he’s leaving Ottawa hopeful that Prime Minister Mark Carney heard his call for immigration reform, including within a temporary foreign worker program he says is being abused.

Eby said he alerted Carney to companies like Starbucks and Boston Pizza using temporary foreign workers instead of British Columbians and how how immigration levels have strained B.C. services.

Eby took with him a healthcare worker who is at risk of being deported back to India, saying it shows B.C. needs more control over the types of immigration needed to fill critical jobs through a provincial nominee program that Ottawa has cut in half.
