PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One year after Multnomah County opened its first deflection center, commissioners are expressing disappointment at the results.

During a Multnomah County Board of Commissioners briefing on Thursday, a yearly report about the Coordinated Care Pathways Center on Southeast Sandy Boulevard was discussed. The report shows 606 people were referred to deflection, though the analysis of how many people actually used it won't be out until next month.

Commissioners said they're concerned the sobering program isn't producing the outcomes the community needs.

"I think we need to demand better outcomes for, not just for the taxpayer dollars that are being spent, but also for those individuals who are struggling with addiction and need a path to treatment and recovery," said M
