PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Amid a massive shortfall, district leaders want staff to take 10 unpaid, non-working days. The Reynolds Education Association said that's a hard "no."

This comes as the district faces more cuts and a $5.5 million shortfall for the current school year.

District leaders held a virtual meeting of their own, as union members met in person at Reynolds High School to discuss the proposed furlough days, and budget woes the district currently faces.

At Thursday's in-person meeting, union members shared ample frustration with a lack of transparency and a feeling of distrust with leaders.

Essentially, the district is asking the union to approve those 10 furlough days.

According to a district spokesperson, each furlough day would save them roughly $530,000.
