In a verdict that shocked him, his supporters and his attorney, Joshua Hubert was found guilty on Thursday of attempted murder and kidnapping — but was acquitted of the child rape charges related to the 2017 case.

“Justice was not done here today, period,” Hubert’s attorney, Kevin Larson, said outside the Worcester County Superior courtroom.

“I feel like I’m living in a real-life ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ ... I don’t know how a rational juror looks at this evidence and says that Josh Hubert is guilty of these offenses,” Larson said.

The girl’s family and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment to MassLive outside the courtroom after the decision.
