People from all over the world will converge on Grand Rapids over the next couple of weeks for ArtPrize. In fact, 800,000 people are expected to check out the annual International Art Competition, which began Thursday.

ArtPrize Director Katlyn Whittington says there’s a lot to see.

“ We have 1,100 artists coming in to Grand Rapids and presenting in 155 different venues throughout the urban core,” Whittington said. “ This is an exciting engagement and intersection between art exhibit experience and arts education.”

Whittington says the public is asked to vote on the art and a jury of art professionals review the art to award $400 ,000 in prizes.

ArtPrize runs through October 4.
