Long-stalled discussions over the creation of a state-of-the-art training center for first responders in Oakland County restarted this week after an independent report that found the current facility and dispatch center operated by the Sheriff's Office need modernization.

Talks that began nearly a decade ago and in 2021 and 2023 resumed this week after investigators with the consulting firm Guidepost Solutions released a report examining the emergency response to the Oxford High School attack, which included the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and more than two dozen agencies.
