Shadow defence minister Angus Taylor has warned Labor’s new energy plan would hit families and businesses with hidden costs while failing to deliver on cheaper electricity.

Mr Taylor stressed Labor had ignored the true impact of its energy policies on food, building materials, transport and vehicle costs and warned Australians could not afford the price burdens.

He also claimed the government had failed to deliver on its promise to cut electricity bills.

“Labor has completely failed to bring down electricity prices … they are running away from that commitment,” Mr Taylor said on Sky News.

According to Mr Taylor, Labor’s own report included “a carbon tax going up to $300 over time,” which he described as more than ten times Julia Gillard’s scheme.
