UK households including pensions AND savers are set to wake up to an unexpected tax bill over the summer from HMRC . Thanks to the Labour Party and HMRC's simple assessment system, people will be dragged into the crosshairs of the taxman.
The tax department will write to UK households who have been dragged into higher brackets thanks to multiple consecutive governments' frozen tax threshold policy.
The taxman has sent 1.4 million simple assessment letters to people who owe money over the past month. HMRC’s chief customer officer Myrtle Lloyd said: “If a letter drops on your mat – or appears in your online Personal Tax Account – you’ve been sent it for a reason.
