From long-lasting marriages to high volunteering, Nebraska is one of the happiest states in the country, according to a new study.

A WalletHub study ranked Nebraska as the third happiest state in America based on well-being, work-life balances and overall community environments.

Overall, Nebraska scored just behind Hawaii and Maryland, and placed ahead of New Jersey and Connecticut.

To determine the happiest states, the study looked at 30 key metrics for each state including depression rates, share of adults feeling productive, income growth and the unemployment rate.

Nebraska was ranked fourth for community and environment, seventh for work environment and ninth in emotional and physical well-being. The Cornhusker State also has the sixth-lowest depression rate.
