After attorneys for Gov. Kay Ivey asked a judge to dismiss fired Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs commissioner Kent Davis’ federal lawsuit against her, Davis’ attorney replied that Ivey “is not the Queen of Alabama” and the case should proceed.
Davis, a retired U.S. Navy rear admiral who was recently named the new head of Mobile-based Vets Recover, sued Ivey in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama in Montgomery in June, claiming Ivey illegally removed him from the helm of the state’s veterans affairs agency in October 2024 and violated his First Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
