British Gas has issued a warning to UK households to "prepare for a cold snap" as temperatures are forecast to fall this weekend and next week.
The Met Office has forecast bitterly cold temperatures this weekend, with parts of Scotland predicted to go as low as 0C.
From October 1, energy bills will rise by two per cent to £1,755 per year for a typical household paying by Direct Debit.
This is £35 more than the current £1,720 level set for July to September.
