A Dalhousie political scientist is among those concerned about what the suspension of late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel means in relation to First Amendment rights in the United States.

ABC suspended the Jimmy Kimmel Live show “indefinitely” after commentary the comedian made surrounding the political response to the murder of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk at a public event in Utah.

U.S. President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account following the show’s suspension, congratulating “ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done.” He went on to suggest that other popular late-night show hosts be similarly suspended. “That leaves Jimmy (Fallon) and Seth (Myers)” Trump posted, urging NBC to “do it.”
