D.C. threw the biggest block party of the year last weekend. Art All Night spans all eight Wards and nearly 30 neighborhoods, celebrating the city’s rich culture and boosting local business.
But this year, the National Guard troops and federal agents loomed over the event—especially in areas with heightened police presence.
In Mount Pleasant, namesake salsa band Orquesta Manplesa had the Friday night crowd on its feet. Between songs, lead singer Camilo Linares peered up at a passing helicopter. “What, are we making too much noise?” he said.
“They want more salsa!” he said, turning to the crowd. Lamont Plaza erupted in cheers—and an impromptu “Free D.C.” chant.
