CLINTON, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Valley Authority and Type One Energy, a fusion technology company, are expected to make a major announcement at TVA’s Bull Run site Friday.

Bull Run is the future site of Infinity One, described on Type One’s website as their “first in-situ stellarator testbed.” The technology uses high-powered magnets to manipulate plasma, and the Department of Energy believes it could play a major part in developing fusion energy production.

The project itself is a collaboration between Type One, TVA and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Bull Run spent decades as a fossil fuel plant. Just this summer, TVA crews demolished much of it, including the Clinton plant’s iconic smoke stacks.
