RIDGELAND, S.C. —
One man is dead after an attempted armed robbery Thursday morning in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
According to the Ridgeland Police Department, a man wearing a ski mask and armed with a machete -- later identified as Curtis Edward Scott, 55 -- entered through the back door of Jay's Barbershop with the intent to rob an employee.
The employee, who police say is a legal firearm owner, pulled out his weapon and fired at Scott, striking him in the chest and killing him.
Officers responded around 10:30 a.m. to the business on W. Main Street.
Additional information has not been released.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
