A 16-year-old student was arrested Thursday after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Queens.
The student had threatened to "shoot the school up" on Instagram from inside the Bayside school, according to police.
Mayor Eric Adams said the FBI was alerted by someone who saw the post, traced its location and notified the NYPD, which sent officers to the school around 11:45 a.m.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the student was “removed from his classroom without incident and escorted to an empty conference room.” According to Tisch, officers dialed the phone number associated with the Instagram account, and the teen’s identity was confirmed when his phone rang.
A subsequent search of the boy’s backpack uncovered a black semi-automatic 9mm Taurus
